Haley Titus's Cosmic Dance

Haley Titus is an abstract painter who has left a very colorful footprint on many areas of  Sacramento Ca. If you've ever picked up a latte at  Phillz Coffee on Freeport Boulevard or have any little ones attending Phoebe Hearst Elementary School, you may have already run into Titus's work. Haley Titus mostly works with bright colors and big shapes to create abstract scenes that bring comfort and fun to her viewers. Many botanical and or floral images can be found in many of her works. This very fact makes Titus's new exhibition of paintings even more interesting.

On Monday February 19th, Haley Titus's art exhibit titled, "Cosmic Dance" was debuted at Sacramento State located in the University union gallery. I visited the show on February 29th and was instantly immersed into her vision. In the artist statement it read that "Haley creates soft, washy abstracts with gestural movements on raw canvas." When we break the words cosmic dance down, cosmic simply means relating to the cosmos, and dancing is to move with the rhythm of music. These choice of words already seem to give you a visual into the world that Titus creates on canvas. Although these paintings look somewhat similar as far as color scheme and abstraction, the first one that caught my eye was titled "COSMIC KOI".  This conjoining of warm and cool toned brush marks followed my sprinkles of white dotty patterns reminded me of looking inside of a multicolored star in the galaxy perhaps. With swivels and scratches and smears and drips, this painting takes you on a very unique ride into the freedom of space.

  3. Whitney, the font is pale pink - so pale that I can't read it.

  4. Your description of Titus's exhibit did well in accurately and vividly capturing how immersive and captivating her art must have been in person. I appreciated how you included the artist statement, which provided further insight into her artistic vision.

  5. "Cosmic Koi" is an amusing concept, and the clustering, fluid, abstract forms do look like fish swimming in a galactic sea.
